A drawing of a shopper at Columbia Road market, London
I was recently commissioned to do a painting of Columbia Road flower market in London, so I popped over on a Sunday morning to get the initial drawings completed. A great part of the work is noting the shoppers. They come in all shapes and sizes and many are pretty Shiek. I spotted this glamorous specimen shuffling back home with great armfuls of blooms.
The pencil study is 25cm x 15cm, signed and mounted on acid free card.
I send out my newsletter when I feel I have got something to say which is of genuine interest, usually once or twice a month. Included in each newsletter is one free drawing or Giclee print give-away. The winner is selected at random from those who express an interest in the drawing.

Cheers Perry!
These are the bones of my ideas! 🙂 Am always out and about in London so just let me know what you have in mind and we can do a beer/postcard deal again!

That’s a great study — looks almost criminal; shades of Bill Sykes’ dog ‘Bull’s Eye’ and elements of (dare I say it) Ronnie Kray, if he’d been just a little bit more flamboyant — very apt for London!
Well, I can see she has a bag full of sunflowers, rudbeckia’s and peonies! Let’s just hope she was on her way home to make a couple of nice arrangements!
The lady even thought to wear a outfit with a flower pattern to go shopping for her flowers – I must try and remember that when I next go shopping for flowers/plants !! 🙂
Her proportions trouble me: long neck, long torso and short legs. Not that those don’t happen in life, but I love the dogs and the flowers!
And I do give you the “artist’s license” to continue your viewpoint!
Ahh I sometimes chastise myself because my characters are not pulled and pushed enough. I am a bit odd myself I think, I expect that’s where it comes from!

I live near the market and i have taken a good few pictures down there. You really have captured something special in your drawing and may I say, with a healthy dash of humour. All the best.
