The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London is always a highlight. Having exhibited there myself a few times, it’s a place I enjoy returning to—if only to be a bit envious!
The galleries are filled with an impressive range of paintings, sculptures and installations, and one of the exhibition’s amateur,can exhibit alongside some of the biggest names in contemporary art. Among the standout works was a tapestry by Grayson Perry, which I found particularly engaging.
Antony Gormley’s contribution also caught my attention. It had an industrial quality that reminded me of the storeroom of a factory where I once worked in.
Elsewhere, I encountered a rather curious, brightly coloured sculpture that looked remarkably like a giant doner kebab. I love doner kebabs.
As always, I like to choose a favourite work from the exhibition, and this year’s winner was an easy decision: a wonderfully plump, relaxed cat sculpture sprawled across the floor. It had an irresistible sense of character and humour, making it the standout piece of the show for me.
