A good while ago I visited Spain for a week or so and whilst there is visited the fine old town of Ronda.

During my visit I did a quick drawing from a restaurant table in the old town of the 18th century Puente Nuevo ‘new’ bridge. A almost fairy tail bridge which delivers a sickening drop down the El Tajo gorge that carries the Rio Guadalevín through its centre. The overall view however is breath-taking, and you can see for miles from the end of the cliff face.

I would have liked to have stayed longer though I had a plane to catch so I had to complete this painting once I got home to the UK.

A bit about Ronda in Spain

Ronda, a picturesque town in southern Spain’s Andalusia region, is renowned for its dramatic cliffside location and deep El Tajo gorge that separates the old and new towns. The iconic Puente Nuevo bridge spans the gorge, offering breathtaking views. Rich in history, Ronda boasts ancient Moorish architecture, including the Arab baths and the old city walls.

It’s also home to Spain’s oldest bullring, the Plaza de Toros. With whitewashed buildings, winding cobbled streets, and a vibrant cultural heritage, Ronda captures the essence of traditional Andalusian charm. Its natural beauty and historical depth make it a must-visit Spanish destination.
