While working another job in Maida Vale, London, I was walking back to Warwick Avenue tube station. Part of my route took me through Clifton Villas, a charming street lined with mid-19th-century classical townhouses with stucco facades.
As I walked, I noticed a gap in the terrace ahead where people were coming and going. It was a wide alleyway, and at the end of it, I discovered Clifton Nurseries.
This beautiful space is filled with meticulously tended plants everywhere you look. It’s no surprise that the nursery has won medals at the Chelsea Flower Show.
I decided to abandon my plan to head to the tube station and asked if I could paint one of the many scenic views. Fortunately, they agreed, so I tucked myself away and got to work.
The view that captivated me most was toward the alleyway entrance, featuring the back of the houses and a bicycle mounted on a stylish modern shed.
I completed most of the painting on-site on a particularly hot day, until the light made it difficult to continue. I finished the rest in my studio, and the painting is now available for purchase.
