If yes, then I want to hear from you.
I want to paint a picture of The London Marathon where every participant can be pointed to, with a name and story attached to that entrant.
Kindly provide:
- Your name
- A snapshot of yourself donning your marathon kit; you don’t have to be running etc
- The driving force behind your participation. Was it for charity, personal challenge, or something else?
- The year you crossed the finish line.
Send me your details to:
This is going to take a fair while to complete so don’t think you are too late to apply, and do recruit friends and family too.

What’s the story behind this painting?
I recall the inaugural London Marathon in ’81, a real spectacle viewed on our newly acquired colour TV, you somehow felt involved and captivated by the spectacle of it all. Since then, over a million souls have conquered the gruelling 26.2-mile course, and each entrant has a story.
The London Marathon Stories
I watched the London Marathon last year and I was struck by what an astounding achievement it is. I also mused on how these incredible people manage to motivate themselves to do all that training months in advance, often with families and jobs to attend to and some living with disabilities.
Almost no one gets to be represented in a painting, especially being represented at the moment of one of their greatest achievements. I aim to tip the scales, if only slightly.
The location of the painting
The view will be from The Highway in Wapping, opposite The Old Rose pub. It is a great spot as it is here the marathon goes in both directions. One lane at the 13-mile point and the other the 22-mile point.
At the top of this post you can see the initial visuals for the painting so you can see the idea I am reaching for.
And finally
Well, that is my vision, and the rest is up to you. I look forward to hearing from you and many thanks in advance. If all goes well then I will send you a scan once i have completed the painting.
