I found this steam tractor at the Bath and West Show in Somerset. As a bit of a “townie,” the show is always something of a novelty to me. I really enjoy seeing all the farm animals and the dog displays, but one of my favourite areas is the vintage vehicle section. It was there that I discovered this rather fine steam tractor.
A bit about this Titan Steam Tractor
Although it shares little visual similarity with the tractors that came after it, the Titan 10/20 was one of the most successful models of its time. Over its production run, roughly 80,000 units were built.
As one of the first small farm tractors produced by the International Harvester Company (IHC), it was manufactured in the company’s Milwaukee and Chicago plants between 1915 and 1922.
The Titan 10/20 was equipped with a 531-cubic-inch, kerosene-powered, water-cooled, 2-cylinder engine and featured two forward gears and one reverse. Power reached the rear wheels through a chain-drive system.
