On a bitterly cold day I visited Langstone harbour in Hampshire to paint the old mill. The water was very still and almost created a mirror image of the scene. A fine opportunity to paint.

A bit about Langstone harbour and mill

Langstone Harbour, on the south coast of England, is a tranquil expanse of tidal water framed by mudflats, saltmarsh, and rich wildlife habitats. It supports diverse birdlife, including waders and migratory species that thrive in its sheltered shallows. Along its edge stands the historic Langstone Mill, a picturesque pair of buildings—an old tide mill and mill house—set beside the shoreline.

Their warm brick and timber framing create an iconic scene familiar to painters and walkers alike. Together, the harbour and mill embody the area’s natural beauty and heritage, offering peaceful views, gentle footpaths, and a strong sense of coastal.
