About once a week, I take a five-mile cycle ride from my home to the neighbouring village of Evercreech. It’s all about getting a bit fitter, and I chose Evercreech as my destination because the route is flat all the way — which, for my part of Somerset, is something of an achievement.
If I have a bit of time, I put my paints in the panniers and work on the odd piece here and there. This is one such piece. I worked on it just before Christmas, shortly before the weather became too brutal. It appears to be a farmhouse, and as it was some distance away, I had to use my camera’s zoom to capture the details.
While on site, I blocked in the main outlines and colours. After that, it became too cold, so I cycled back and finished the rest of the painting in the studio.
A bit about Evercreech
Evercreech is a historic village in Somerset, England, set among rolling countryside near the Mendip Hills. Known for its medieval church, former railway junction, and traditional high street, it blends rural charm with strong community spirit and local heritage.
