I painted it as a Christmas card one year. What started as a bit of a joke became an exploration of the traditional Christmas card with a modern twist.
One afternoon, while standing at the Tesco checkout in Glastonbury, I spotted this view—the ancient Tor rising in the background, with a car park and a modern KFC in the foreground. That would make a fine Christmas card, I thought, and I got to work.
After finishing the painting, I had it printed and sent out. I was thrilled to see how well people received it, and to my surprise, some kept it on display for months. I guess they got the idea too.
